About the Lab/Il laboratorio

Interno del laboratorio

The Laboratory of Vibrations, NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness), and Powertrain at the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” (DIEF), University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore), is a center of excellence dedicated to the study and analysis of dynamic and vibrational phenomena in complex mechanical systems.

Our mission is to advance cutting-edge research in mechanical vibrations and NVH performance, focusing particularly on powertrain systems, automotive components, and industrial machinery. By combining experimental methods, numerical modeling, and simulations, we aim to improve safety, efficiency, and comfort in vehicles and mechanical systems.

The laboratory actively collaborates with industries, research centers, and universities at national and international levels, providing innovative solutions and specialized technical support in mechanical and automotive engineering.

Research Topics

  1. Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos of Structures
Modeling, experimental testing, nonlinear data analysis, and chaos theory applications in structural engineering.

  2. Non-Newtonian Fluid-Structure Interaction
Experimental investigations, data-driven modeling, and nonlinear data analysis of fluid-structure systems involving non-Newtonian fluids.

  3. Electric Powertrain Systems
Modeling, simulation, experimental testing, digital twin development, predictive maintenance, and condition monitoring of electric powertrain components.

  4. Biomedical Engineering
Modeling and simulation of the upper limb for Parkinson’s tremor diagnosis, prognosis, and control; speech feature extraction techniques.

  5. Active Vibration Control and Insulation
Research on disk brake noise, quasi-zero stiffness origami isolators, active vibration control strategies, and innovative compliant structures inspired by origami and metamaterials.
